When to Include a Photo on Your Resume
- Include if: Applying in creative fields (design, photography, modeling, entertainment), certain countries (France, Germany, Middle East, Asia often prefer photos), or the job posting requests one.
- Skip if: Applying in the US or UK (where photo-free resumes are standard and can introduce unconscious bias), or the job posting says "no photo needed."

- After: 85 KB, professional appearance retained
- Result: Ready to embed in resume PDF or upload separately
Step-by-Step Guide
- Use a professional headshot. Visit a photographer (€40–100), or use a high-quality smartphone photo with professional lighting and a plain background.
- Upload to this tool. Drag and drop or click to select.
- Set width to 413 pixels (35 mm). The tool will scale height to 531 px (45 mm). If your photo is not portrait-oriented, a small crop on the sides may be needed.
- Reduce quality to 85%. For a professional headshot, 85% preserves excellent facial detail while keeping the file under 200 KB. At this quality, differences from 100% are invisible.
- Use JPEG format. JPEG is universal and smaller than PNG.
- Download. The file should be around 85–120 KB. Right-click and check the file size to confirm it's under 200 KB.
- Insert into resume. Embed in your PDF resume, or reference it as a separate file if uploading to a portal.
Pro Tips
- Smile genuinely. Professional doesn't mean stern. A warm, confident expression works in all industries.
- Wear solid colors. Avoid busy patterns that distract from your face. Neutral tones (gray, navy, black) are safest.
- Good lighting is key. Professional photos depend more on lighting than on the camera. Studio sessions or natural window light (outdoors, no direct sun) both work well.
- Update every 2–3 years. A photo from 2015 will seem out of date. Refresh when your appearance changes or you change careers.
- Same photo for LinkedIn and resume. Use the same professional headshot across all applications. Consistency builds recognition.
