Compress Image for Email
Gmail allows up to 25 MB per message. Outlook allows 20 MB. Reduce a large photo to 500–700 KB and send 30+ images in one email without hitting the limit.
Email Image Size Limits & Requirements
| Email Service | Total Size Limit | Recommended Per-Image Size | Typical Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gmail | 25 MB | 600–800 KB | JPEG @ 75% |
| Outlook | 20 MB | 500–700 KB | JPEG @ 75% |
| Apple Mail | 20 MB | 500–700 KB | JPEG @ 75% |
| Yahoo Mail | 25 MB | 600–800 KB | JPEG @ 75% |
Quick Example: Before & After
- Before: 5 MP smartphone photo = 5 MB
- Action: Reduce quality to 75%, keep dimensions 1920×1440 px
- After: 600 KB — ready to send
- Result: 8 photos can now fit in one 25 MB email instead of 4
Step-by-Step Guide
- Upload photos. Drag and drop or click to select. The tool works entirely in your browser — nothing is stored on a server.
- Set quality to 75%. This is the sweet spot for photos sent via email. The difference from 100% is invisible on most screens, but the file size drops dramatically.
- Leave dimensions unchanged. Unless the photo is wider than 1920 px, keep the width and height as-is. Email clients will resize to fit the screen anyway.
- Choose JPEG format. JPEG compresses photos far better than PNG. Use PNG only if you need transparency (not common for email photos).
- Download all. Click "Download All" to get every compressed photo in one ZIP.
- Attach to email. Paste all files into a single email message. For 8 photos at 700 KB each, the total is 5.6 MB — well under Gmail's 25 MB limit.
Pro Tips
- Batch multiple emails. If you have 50 photos to send, compress them all at once, then split into separate emails (5 photos × 10 emails, 3.5 MB each).
- Use Pro for unlimited batches. Free tier caps at 5 images per upload. Pro unlocks unlimited images and lets you compress 50+ at once.
- Avoid PNG for photos. PNG compresses losslessly, keeping quality but creating larger files (2–3 MB for a single 5 MP photo). JPEG is 5–10× smaller.
- Check the preview. Always look at a compressed photo on your phone or laptop before sending to clients or family. 75% quality usually looks great, but the tool shows a before/after.
When to Use This Tool for Email
